Who are we?
Bob Ellison has been working in the risk management arena for over twenty five years – from internal audit, external audit, information security, project and programme risks, business continuity and enterprise risk management.  He has worked across the public and private sectors in the UK and overseas. He has been involved working in some of the most complex and challenging environments – something which drives his endless enthusiasm. The list of assignments below gives an indication of the depth of his experience:

  • Assessing and establishing risk management strategies, policies and frameworks
  • Developing business continuity and disaster recovery plans
  • Assessing and managing risks in complex projects and change programmes
  • Assessing risks in major multi agency partnerships
  • Assessing compliance and helping organisations achieve certification to international information security standards (BS7799 etc)
  • Developing and running risk management, information security and audit training at strategic and practitioner levels
  • Initiating and running a number of corporate and national security awareness campaigns.

He is also an accomplished and enthusiastic presenter, trainer and enjoys extensive media exposure through writing articles and radio interviews. Throughout his career, he has regularly spoken on risk related issues at seminars and conferences including ALARM, Institute of Internal Auditors and Institute of Risk Management. He wrote a book, “Security in Office Systems”, published by National Computing Centre and has had numerous in house booklets published while working for major organisations such as NHS and ICI.

He has been a member of British Computer Society since 1984 and is an Associate member of Institute of Risk Management (IRM). For the IRM he is an Assistant examiner and Chair of Central Government Special Interest Group.

He has set up Bob Ellison Risk Associates to provide training and consultancy in risk management, specifically aimed at the wider public sector.  He has considerable experience in developing and running training courses and believes that the public sector needs high quality (but cost effective) risk management training that is specific to their needs and not just tailored versions of private sector offerings.

What can we offer?
In conjunction with a number of associates he has developed an initial portfolio of three practical one day courses, aimed specifically at risk practitioners and senior managers in the public sector:

  • Effective risk management in the public sector
  • Managing risks in public sector projects and programmes
  • Managing risks in multi agency/ third party partnerships.

Bob Ellison Risk Associates can also provide tailor made awareness briefings for executives, managers, staff even for non executives and members as appropriate.

In addition to training and awareness, Bob Ellison Risk Associates can provide a range of consultancy and interim management services, from high level assessment of an organisations' risk management arrangements to mentoring risk managers and providing interim support pending a permanent person being appointed.
